Tottenham Signs Sávio for £75m as De Zerbi Era Begins

Tottenham have made their boldest move of the summer, sealing the signing of Savinho from Manchester City and unveiling the Brazilian winger under his preferred name, Sávio.

Spurs will pay £75m for the 22-year-old, with the agreement containing up to £10m in potential add-ons, underlining just how central he is to the club’s new project.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Sávio said after completing the move. “It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.”

That manager, Roberto De Zerbi, has wasted little time putting his stamp on the squad. Sávio arrives as the headline attacking recruit, a wide forward signed to stretch games and unsettle defenders.

“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said. “He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”

The message is clear: Spurs want their wings to bite again.

Sávio’s switch also deepens the growing transfer link between Tottenham and Manchester City. Another City forward, Omar Marmoush, is expected to follow him to north London, which would continue a lavish summer outlay.

If Marmoush completes his move, he will become the club’s fifth £50m-plus signing of the window, joining Sávio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke in a radically reshaped core.

Experience has not been ignored either. Defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have arrived on free transfers, adding nous and depth behind the expensive new arrivals.

Money spent, profile raised, expectations soaring. De Zerbi now has the kind of squad that demands a serious tilt at major honours.
