Wayne Rooney Joins Mark Goldbridge in New United Show
Wayne Rooney is stepping even deeper into Manchester United’s media universe – and he’s doing it alongside one of the club’s loudest online voices.
The United legend will co-host a new Reds-dedicated show this season with influencer Mark Goldbridge, as part of Gary Neville’s rapidly expanding Overlap network. The programme, titled Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, will sit alongside the Overlap’s existing hit, Stick to Football, where Rooney is already a regular pundit.
Rooney, Goldbridge and the Overlap machine
Neville moved decisively earlier this year, buying Goldbridge’s YouTube channels The United Stand and That’s Football for an undisclosed seven-figure fee. Those channels, now under The Overlap umbrella, bring with them a huge built-in audience: Goldbridge – real name Brent Di Cesare – has more than 3.8 million followers across the two platforms.
His clips are a staple of the football internet, bouncing around social media for their explosive reactions and unapologetically strong views. Now that raw fan energy will be paired with Rooney’s authority and insider knowledge of Old Trafford.
The new show is part of a major distribution deal with Disney+, which will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football across the season. Neville has framed the partnership as a way to scale without losing what made The Overlap successful in the first place, saying it “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.
From critic of fan channels to owning one
Neville’s move into the fan-media space is striking given his past. Back in 2017, he publicly slammed ArsenalFanTV – now AFTV – calling it “embarrassing” after contributors on the channel tore into Arsène Wenger following a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.
That criticism sparked a Twitter spat and eventually led to Neville appearing on the channel to explain his stance. Seven years on, he now owns one of the most influential fan platforms in English football and has folded it into a professional media network he co-chairs.
Founded in 2021, The Overlap has grown quickly, branching out from football into cricket and rugby and pulling in big-name pundits and guests. Bringing Rooney and Goldbridge together under that banner is its boldest United-specific move yet.
Rooney’s growing media portfolio
This new project does not come at the expense of Rooney’s other broadcast work. The Wayne Rooney Show is set to return to BBC platforms this season, while he will continue as a pundit on Match of the Day.
From club icon on the pitch to central figure in its media conversation, Rooney now finds himself at the heart of how millions of fans will experience Manchester United this season – and this time, the roar of the crowd will come through a camera lens.
