Wayne Rooney Launches New Show Stick to United

Wayne Rooney is stepping even deeper into the Manchester United conversation, fronting a new club-dedicated show alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge this season.

The former United captain will co-host Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, a fresh spin-off under Gary Neville's growing Overlap brand. Rooney is already a regular voice on the network’s flagship panel show, Stick to Football, but this move puts him at the centre of a programme built entirely around United.

The new show follows Neville’s bold move earlier this year, when he bought Goldbridge’s YouTube channels The United Stand and That’s Football, folding them into his Overlap network. The former England defender, who launched The Overlap in 2021, has turned a fan-led YouTube empire into part of a wider media operation that now stretches into cricket and rugby as well.

A major distribution deal with Disney+ underpins the next phase. As part of that agreement, Disney+ will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football across the season, giving Rooney and Goldbridge a substantial platform and pushing The Overlap further into the mainstream. Neville has described the partnership as one that “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.

Neville, who co-chairs The Overlap, paid an undisclosed seven-figure sum in April to acquire Goldbridge’s channels. It was a clear statement: fan media, once dismissed by parts of the traditional pundit class, now sits at the heart of his strategy.

Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – brings a huge online following with him. Across The United Stand and That’s Football, he has more than 3.8 million followers, built on viral clips, theatrical reactions and unapologetically strong views on matches, managers and players. His style has long divided opinion but rarely goes unnoticed.

Neville himself has history with the fan-media world. He famously branded ArsenalFanTV “embarrassing” after supporters on the channel tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in 2017. That sparked a public row on Twitter, before Neville later appeared on the channel to explain his stance. Now he is not just debating with fan media – he owns some of its biggest platforms.

Rooney’s media portfolio continues to grow alongside this new venture. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, and he will also maintain his role as a pundit on Match of the Day.

From Old Trafford’s dressing room to YouTube studios and streaming giants, Rooney is no longer just talking about Manchester United’s future. He’s helping shape where the conversation happens.
