Wrexham Aims for Championship Redemption Against Swansea City

Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham will return to Swansea City as a very different Championship animal to the one that left south Wales empty-handed last season.

The Red Dragons lost 2-1 to Mitor Matos' side in December, a defeat that stung at the time but ultimately did little to derail their rise. Wrexham regrouped, surged through the second half of the campaign and finished seventh in 2025-26 – their highest placing in the second tier.

Now they head back to Swansea on Saturday night (20:00 BST) to face a team sitting top of the Championship, with the Swans having taken 10 points from a possible 12. The leaders look strong. Parkinson is convinced his team look stronger.

The evidence he leans on is fresh. Wrexham’s 3-0 victory at Millwall in midweek did more than add three points; it underlined, in his eyes, how far this group has come since that “gut-wrenching” night in Swansea.

Asked whether Wrexham are better equipped than on their last visit to the Swansea.com Stadium, Parkinson did not hesitate.

“Absolutely,” he said. “The Millwall game is a good example of that, where we won 2-0 down there last year and we beat them 3-0 this year.

“But they were very different games in terms of the control we had in the game this time around.

“We looked to a more accomplished Championship side this time around. The players have got used to the level and of course we've added quality into the group.”

The challenge now is simple: turn that sense of growth into a statement result on the ground where their progress was brutally checked nine months ago.
