Yves Bissouma Signs with Ajax Until 2027

Ajax have ended the uncertainty around Yves Bissouma’s future, confirming the Mali international has signed a contract running until June 30, 2027, and handing the midfielder a fresh stage at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

The deal takes effect immediately. For Bissouma, it closes the door on a difficult spell in the Premier League and opens another in the Eredivisie, where Ajax believe he can anchor a new-look midfield.

From Spurs frustration to Amsterdam reset

His final year at Tottenham never really caught fire. Eleven appearances, no sustained rhythm, and a coaching staff he struggled to convince. The promise that took him from Brighton to north London faded under the weight of inconsistency and off-field issues.

The low point came two years ago, when he served a high-profile suspension after social media footage appeared to show him using nitrous oxide. That incident lingered, shaping perceptions and shadowing his time at Spurs.

Now he arrives in Amsterdam with something to prove and little appetite to dwell on the past.

“I feel really happy. It means a lot, because Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. And for me to be part of the trip of this great club is something nice,” Bissouma said, clearly relishing the chance to reframe his career at one of the continent’s most storied institutions.

Sold on the Ajax project

This was not a last-minute scramble for a club. Bissouma made it clear he had been convinced by what Ajax laid out long before pen met paper.

“Not really,” he replied when asked if the move surprised him. “Because I've spoken to a lot of people here beforehand. They told me about the project and that was very interesting to me. That's why I'm here.

“They just told me the project, what they really want to do this year and for the years that are coming as well.”

Ajax see him as more than a reclamation project. They see a ready-made presence in the middle of the pitch, someone to give their young, technical side some edge and experience.

“I’m a winner and then you want to win everything. That’s my desire and I’m ready to start,” he stated, setting his own bar high from day one.

Leader in a young dressing room

Ajax’s identity rests on youth, but youth needs a guide. Bissouma has lived the grind of the Premier League and European football, and he is eager to turn that experience into something tangible for the next generation in Amsterdam.

“I'm just going to give them some advice, like how I see things and how I see football,” he explained. “Just to let them know I'm here for all of them, all of the youngest players. They can talk to me, we can have a very good conversation about anything.”

For a squad often stacked with academy graduates and emerging talents, that kind of voice in the dressing room can matter as much as his work in front of the back four.

Cruijff: A long-term target, for free

Technical Director Jordi Cruijff underlined that this was a calculated move, not an opportunistic swoop on a free agent.

“Discussions with Yves began in August and we are delighted that he has now signed for Ajax. We have brought in an experienced player who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level. He is capable of playing in several positions, and we hope he will be available for selection as soon as possible,” Cruijff said.

Tracking him for months, then landing him without a transfer fee, fits neatly into Ajax’s model: acquire proven quality, restore its value, and let it drive the team on the pitch.
