Highlights of the Most Successful Teams

Egypt kicked off the competition by winning the first two tournaments and made history by securing three consecutive titles in 2006, 2008, and 2010. They are unmatched in their dominance on the continent.

Cameroon, known as the Indomitable Lions, have earned their five championships starting with a win in 1984 and back-to-back triumphs in 2000 and 2002. Their latest victory came in 2017 against Egypt.

Ghana holds four titles, primarily during the 1960s through the early 1980s. Their initial success began in 1963 when they defeated Sudan decisively.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast each have three titles. Nigeria won theirs in 1980, 1994, and 2013, while Ivory Coast's victories came in 1992, 2015, and most recently in 2023 as hosts.

Algeria and DR Congo both won twice, with Algeria’s latest triumph in 2019 and DR Congo’s titles dating back to 1968 and 1974.
