Alejandro Garnacho Faces Tough Start at Aston Villa with Potential Exit on Horizon

Alejandro Garnacho has endured a difficult beginning since joining Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea this summer. The deal includes an obligation for Villa to buy him permanently for £43 million if certain conditions, described as 'easily achievable,' are met.

Despite the high expectations, Garnacho’s appearances have been limited. He has featured only three times in the Premier League, totaling just 31 minutes on the pitch. For the last four games across all competitions, he has remained an unused substitute, sparking comparisons to Harvey Elliott’s similar situation at Villa in 2025.

Unai Emery Comments on Garnacho's Limited Role

The club's manager, Unai Emery, has not been as direct as he was with Elliott, but his message remains clear. When asked about Garnacho's chances of playing, Emery urged patience and hard work, stressing that the winger is behind several players in the pecking order.

Emery named George Hemmings, Alysson, and Ibrahim Mbaye as players ahead of Garnacho. He praised their performances and suggested that pre-season circumstances had set Garnacho back. Emery said:

"Continue working. Work, work, train, work. When he can have minutes to play, try and play well. He is progressing, but we have players in front of him now."

"George is playing fantastic. Alysson is also understanding things well and is giving us things I want. Mbaye also responded well. We want a competitive team and players to compete in the style we have. Garnacho is a little bit behind because of some circumstances we had in pre-season. It is time to be patient for the time he needs."

Potential Move Back to La Liga in January

With opportunities scarce, Garnacho might look for a fresh start in the upcoming transfer window. Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that several La Liga clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old winger ahead of January. This could provide Garnacho with a chance to gain more regular playing time and return to Spain, where he was born and spent part of his youth career at Atletico Madrid before moving to Manchester United at 16.

Meanwhile, during the international break, Garnacho will remain with Aston Villa as they train in Seville. With his last appearance for Argentina dating back to 2024, this period could offer him a chance to impress Emery before the Premier League resumes on October 10.
