Arsenal Pursue Guimaraes Amid Premier League Transfer Battle

The summer window has finally caught fire. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool are all deep in negotiations, chasing headline signings while trying to keep their own stars out of rival hands.

Arsenal prepare huge Guimaraes push

Arsenal are ready to accelerate their pursuit of the Newcastle midfielder after he informed the club he wants to leave. Initial conversations with the player’s camp have taken place, and while Newcastle insist he is not for sale, the pressure is building.

Standard Sport understands there has been no formal bid lodged yet and no direct talks between the clubs, but Arsenal’s intent is no longer in doubt. A concrete offer is expected, with at least one proposal worth around £55million already discussed during what have been described as positive talks.

Guimaraes is not the only major investment on the table. Arsenal could push their summer spend towards £200m with a move for priority target Morgan Rogers and a blockbuster deal for Bradley Barcola, who is expected to cost around £130m.

Behind that headline business, the Gunners are also tidying the edges of the squad. Former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier has passed his medical and is set to arrive on a free transfer as third-choice, following the permanent signing of Piero Hincapie after his loan spell.

The club’s recruitment strategy under Andrea Berta remains clear: cast the net wide, then close in hard on a select few. Guimaraes now sits right at the heart of that plan, with any move for the Brazilian certain to shape the futures of young prospect Ethan Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly and even the deployment of Declan Rice.

United and Chelsea trade blows over midfield

While Arsenal circle Guimaraes, Manchester United and Chelsea are locked in their own midfield reshuffle.

United have agreed a £50m fee with Chelsea for Andrey Santos. The Brazilian is set to follow compatriot Ederson into Old Trafford, with the latter flying in for a medical after Brazil’s early World Cup exit. United had also been linked with Alex Scott, but that chase has taken a twist.

Chelsea, armed with the Santos money, are now looking at Scott themselves and weighing up a move for the Bournemouth star. Talks continue over Maxence Lacroix and Pep Chavarria as the Blues look to rebuild key areas of the squad, using outgoing funds to pivot quickly back into the market.

One deal that has slipped through both United and Arsenal’s fingers is Morten Hjulmand. Atletico Madrid have struck an agreement with Sporting CP for the Dane in a deal worth around €40m, ending Premier League hopes of bringing him in this summer.

Tottenham refuse to slow spending

Tottenham have already pushed past £230m in this window, but the spending is not about to stop.

The club are readying a move for Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, who could cost close to £100m. It would be another huge statement fee in a window where Spurs have tried to fuse long-term planning with immediate ambition. Rafael Leao has also been linked, underlining the scale of the attacking rebuild under way.

Across north London, Arsenal’s radar is not limited to Guimaraes. The Gunners are tracking Norway international Antonio Nusa, who has lit up this year’s World Cup. The RB Leipzig forward, valued between €50m and €60m, is also being followed closely by Tottenham, with Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace all in the frame. A straight fight between the north London rivals for one of Europe’s brightest young attackers is very much on the cards.

Villa dig in, Juve circle Martinez

Aston Villa are braced for bids and determined to stand their ground.

The club are prepared to do “everything in their power” to keep Ezri Konsa, according to reports, and are ready to make life as difficult as possible for Arsenal should they come calling. With Villa pushing to stay among the Premier League’s elite, losing their defensive lynchpin is simply not part of the plan.

At the other end of the pitch, another Villa pillar is being courted. Juventus have held talks with Emiliano Martinez’s representatives as they continue their push to bring the World Cup-winning goalkeeper to Turin. The Argentine has agreed a three-year deal in principle, but the clubs remain apart on price. Villa want around €10m for their No1; Juve are not yet willing to meet that figure. The stalemate will not last forever.

Palace on the move, Barca hunt firepower

Crystal Palace are quietly reshaping their squad.

Oscar Mingueza is set to join on a free transfer after leaving Celta Vigo. The Spaniard’s ability to operate at both centre-back and right-back offers valuable flexibility as Palace look to refresh their defensive options.

The club’s former academy product Jesse Derry is also on the move. After signing a new long-term contract at Chelsea until 2032, Derry is close to sealing a season-long loan to Sporting. The winger made his Premier League debut for the Blues last season and will now seek regular minutes in Portugal.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are working on both the present and the future. Karim Adeyemi has agreed personal terms with the Catalan club, with the Borussia Dortmund winger eager to move to La Liga as his contract in Germany ticks into its final year. Direct negotiations are under way between Dortmund and Barca, with Hansi Flick keen to add Adeyemi’s pace and direct running to his forward line.

Barca are also among a cluster of clubs chasing Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington. The 18-year-old impressed for Australia at the World Cup and has drawn interest from Liverpool and Manchester United as well. The MLS side are open to a sale, with a loan-back to Colorado for the coming season on the table as part of any agreement.

Liverpool’s Salah question and Fabinho’s wish

Liverpool’s biggest question this summer sits on the right wing. With Mohamed Salah’s long-term future under constant scrutiny, the club are working on potential replacements and have Crysencio Summerville among the latest forwards under consideration.

Elsewhere, a familiar Anfield face is eyeing a return to the European elite. Fabinho, now a free agent after leaving Al Ittihad, is open to joining Real Madrid, according to reports. The Brazilian is spending the summer in the Spanish capital following Brazil’s World Cup defeat by Norway and has made no secret of his desire to return to the Bernabeu. For now, Real are not pursuing a deal, but the midfielder has made his position clear.
