Arsenal Targets Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez After Missing Out on Julian Alvarez

Gabriel Heinze, assistant coach at Arsenal and fellow Argentine, reportedly spearheaded talks with Martinez last week. Martinez Commits to Inter Milan

"No doubt I would like to retire at this club," Martinez said in May. "It’s hard for me to imagine myself anywhere else these days. You never know in football but if they don’t kick me out, I’m staying here."

He expressed gratitude for the interest from Premier League and La Liga clubs but emphasized his strong ties to Milan, mentioning his family and business commitments. "I have a restaurant, my kids go to school. I’ll always be here because I feel good, because I’m happy," he added.

"You never know when it comes to football. As long as they want me, those who are needed at Inter will be here. Of course, as I always say, it happens in every job. When you’re no longer needed, they eventually send you away. But right now I’m here with all my heart, just like I was on day one."

The failure to sign a leading striker leaves Mikel Arteta with tough decisions ahead. While Kai Havertz has shown promise, his role as a hybrid forward means Arsenal lacks a traditional number nine. Viktor Gyokeres remains the only other option, yet he hasn't played a single minute in the first two Premier League matches.
