Madrid and the Brazil international are some distance apart on what his next contract should look like, and that gap has opened the door to a club willing to pay both the fee and the wages that match his status.

The English champions are described as being in a strong position to strike, emboldened by Vinicius’ outstanding 2026 World Cup for Brazil and by the knowledge that Madrid face an uncomfortable choice. At 9:06pm on July 31, it posted that Arsenal and Vinicius have personal terms agreed in principle, adding that Roc Nation – the agency representing the Brazilian – will head into talks with Real Madrid armed with what was described as a “monstrous offer” from the Premier League champions.

Now the spotlight swings to Madrid’s hierarchy and the player himself. Arsenal have put their cards on the table. The next move, as the post pointedly noted, lies with Vinicius and his current club.

Bruno Guimaraes remains in the crosshairs

While the Vinicius pursuit grabs the headlines, Arsenal’s recruitment drive is not limited to the Spanish capital. The club remain firmly locked on another Brazilian star: Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United.

Guimaraes has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal. The groundwork between player and club has been in place for some time, reflecting how highly Arteta and the recruitment team rate the midfielder’s blend of aggression, control and personality in the middle of the pitch.

Reports have suggested that an agreement in principle with Newcastle is also done. That, though, has been cooled by Fabrizio Romano, who insists the two clubs are not yet there. What is clear, he says, is that talks are set to resume.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano outlined the state of play. Arsenal are “ready to continue negotiations” with Newcastle, staying in direct contact with Guimaraes’ representatives and with the player himself. The reason is simple: Bruno wants Arsenal.

His desire has been described as “very clear”. Guimaraes sees Arsenal as the “perfect project” for the next stage of his career, and personal agreement between the player and the London club has been in place for some time. The missing piece is the deal between the two Premier League sides.

Eddie Howe’s departure from St James’ Park adds another layer. Romano indicated that Howe believed Newcastle were likely to sell Guimaraes, a view that now hangs over the negotiations as the club enter a new managerial era and weigh the financial and sporting implications of cashing in on their midfield star.

Arsenal, for their part, are not hiding. They want Bruno. Bruno wants them. Both clubs know it.

The expectation is that discussions could ignite at any moment, with the potential to reshape not only Arsenal’s midfield but also Newcastle’s ambitions in a league where standing still is the quickest route to falling away.
