Atlético Madrid Stands Firm on Julián: No Sale for €100m, €150m, or €200m

Atlético Madrid has picked its side and raised its voice. On one end, Barcelona and the market. On the other, Julián and the club’s identity. There is no middle ground.

“Atlético, like all great clubs, is built with great players, and I’m certain that Julián is one, as well as a great professional,” came the firm message in an interview with EFE.

The stance was not cautious, not diplomatic. It was a declaration. “We must compete based on our values, with homegrown talent and with the best players from outside that we can bring in.”

The club has already laid everything out to all parties involved. No room for doubt, no room for interpretation.

“My opinion is clear, the club’s will is clear, we have made this clear to the player and his agent, and to the Barça president,” he said. “I have no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián, and Julián is the perfect striker for Atlético Madrid. We want to keep him.”

Barcelona’s interest, and the public words from Joan Laporta, lit the fuse. The Catalan club suggested its offer would not remain on the table forever. Atlético’s response? The exact opposite.

“I simply heard some statements from the president (Laporta), saying that his offer wasn’t open-ended. And our response is that our answer is indeed open-ended; we don’t want to transfer him,” he insisted. Then came the key line, the one that travels across Europe in capital letters. “We didn’t accept the €100 million offer, nor will we accept one of €150 million or €200 million.”

The message is not just about money. It is about power, about control of the dressing room and the project. Atlético wants Julián at the heart of it. They are not just keeping a striker; they are defending an idea of who they are.

“We are going to help Julián and continue to take care of him so that he can give us his full potential, because we need him to keep competing among the best in Europe,” he added.

The club also drew a line around the player’s recent past. “We must understand that Julián hasn’t had the best advisors around him regarding his professional career in recent months.”

There is tension in the air, and not just between clubs. The Atlético hierarchy feels under attack from what they see as external pressure and noise trying to unsettle both the institution and the player.

“That other clubs and their affiliated media tell us what to do, dictate our sporting strategy, and disrespect us. That’s precisely what they want: to divide us,” he warned.

The contrast with the financial muscle of their rivals is obvious, and he did not hide it. “It’s clear we’re not as powerful as them, but we have values. We Atlético fans won’t allow them to corrupt us. Atleti is strong when we’re all together.”

The transfer market will keep circling. Offers may rise, stories will keep coming. Atlético’s answer, though, has already been delivered: their number nine is not on sale, at any price.
