Barcelona Signs Teenage Winger Jesse Bisiwu for Future

Barcelona have dipped back into Europe’s talent pool and come up with another bold bet on the future: teenage winger Jesse Bisiwu.

The Spanish champions confirmed on Friday that they have struck a deal with Club Brugge for the 18-year-old Belgian, in a transfer reported at 8.5 million euros. Bisiwu has signed a long-term contract at Camp Nou running until 30 June 2031, a commitment that underlines how highly the club rate him.

He becomes the latest youthful face in a summer of targeted regeneration, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. Different profiles, same idea: inject pace, verticality and hunger into a squad that wants to stay on top while reshaping its identity.

A winger built for Barcelona’s touchline

Barcelona’s own description of Bisiwu is telling. They see “a great future ahead” in a wide player whose game is built on pace, strength and sharp dribbling. In other words, a classic Camp Nou winger: someone who can live on the chalk of the touchline, beat his man and tilt a match with one burst.

Born on 22 January 2008, Bisiwu is still at the very start of his career, but his rise through Belgium’s youth ranks has been steep. He has been a regular for his country at junior level and truly announced himself at the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where he helped Belgium reach the semi-finals and earned a place in the tournament’s Best XI. That kind of recognition rarely goes unnoticed in Barcelona’s scouting department.

From OH Leuven to La Masia’s doorstep

Bisiwu’s journey began at OH Leuven, where he first caught the eye, before Club Brugge moved to bring him into their academy in 2020. From there, his development accelerated.

Across the last two seasons, he featured 14 times in the UEFA Youth League, scoring three goals and testing himself against some of the continent’s best prospects. At home, Club Brugge trusted him with senior minutes in their reserve side, Club NXT, in the Belgian Second Division. He made his debut in 2023 at just 15 years old and went on to rack up 36 appearances at that level before Barcelona came calling.

He never actually broke into Club Brugge’s first team, but Barcelona are not buying what he has done already as much as what they believe he can become.

The next step: Barça reserves first, Camp Nou later

The plan is clear. Bisiwu will start his Barcelona career with the club’s reserve side, where he can adjust to the demands of Spanish football, absorb the positional play that defines the team’s style and grow without the immediate glare of Camp Nou.

The path from the reserves to the first team is never guaranteed, yet the length of his contract and the fee involved speak to a club willing to give him time. If his pace and power translate quickly to Spanish pitches, the temptation to fast-track him will be strong.

A new Belgian chapter in blaugrana

By signing, Bisiwu joins a small but notable group of Belgians to wear Barcelona’s colours. Thomas Vermaelen and Fernand Goyvaerts came before him; now it is the teenager from OH Leuven and Club Brugge who carries that flag.

For Barcelona, this is another calculated swing on a player they believe can grow into the shirt. For Bisiwu, it is a leap into one of football’s most demanding environments.
