Benjamin Sesko Reflects on Late Draw Against Everton Despite Scoring First Goal of Season

Benjamin Sesko admitted the late equalizer conceded by Manchester United against Everton was tough to take. The Slovenian striker scored his first goal of the season, only to see the hosts snatch a 2-2 draw deep into stoppage time.

Striker’s Return to Scoring

The 23-year-old forward came off the bench at Hill Dickinson Stadium and connected with Luke Shaw’s precise cross. His powerful header found the net in the 88th minute, giving the Red Devils a temporary lead. Unfortunately, a stunning strike from Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the 96th minute leveled the score for Everton.

Frustration at Losing Victory

Despite marking his return from injury with a key goal, Sesko expressed his disappointment over losing all three points so late in the game. Speaking to MUTV, he said:

“We’re very disappointed because we were so close to winning. To concede a goal like that in the last minute is painful for everyone. Everyone gave their all to try and win. Moments like this where a last shot decides it, it’s very painful.”

Signs of Recovery and Optimism

Sesko’s goal offers encouragement after fitness setbacks disrupted much of his pre-season. He shared his positive outlook despite the result:

“Scoring is the best feeling, especially for a club like this. Providing goals and points is my job at the end of the day. It’s great to be back with the team and experience the games again. Of course, I wish we had won today, but we can’t change that.”

He added that focusing on improvements and looking ahead is key:

“It’s really important to take everything as positive, even when it’s not the best outcome. To see the game in a good light, try to improve, and focus on the next match.”

Looking Ahead to European Challenge

Having come off the bench in recent matches against Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Everton, Sesko aims for a full start soon as he regains sharpness. Michael Carrick’s squad now turns to European action, hosting Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK at Old Trafford on Thursday to begin their Champions League campaign.
