Chelsea Secures Lamine Camara from Monaco as Enzo Fernandez Set to Join Manchester City
Chelsea has reached a €45 million agreement with Monaco to sign midfielder Lamine Camara. This move clears the way for Enzo Fernandez to complete his high-profile transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Details of the Transfer
The deal for Camara, which includes bonuses, is nearly complete with only the payment structure left to finalize, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The Senegalese international will join Stamford Bridge as the direct replacement for Fernandez.
Fernandez is close to sealing a monumental £120 million move to Manchester City, where he will reunite with coach Enzo Maresca. Chelsea had been pursuing Camara all summer and successfully outbid Crystal Palace for their preferred target.
Manager Xabi Alonso Questions Fernandez's Commitment
Fernandez’s departure comes after a difficult spell under manager Xabi Alonso. Alonso recently excluded him from the squad for a Carabao Cup match against Luton Town, raising doubts about his motivation and readiness.
"We need the players that are in the best situation to play," Alonso said. "We have to consider players' form and energy. It's important they have the desire to play and prepare well."
Before the match, Alonso held a private discussion with Fernandez, deciding it was best he not be part of the squad. Despite this, Alonso acknowledged Fernandez as a top player, though their relationship appears strained.
Camara’s Impact and Future at Chelsea
To avoid being short in midfield, Chelsea moved swiftly to secure Camara. Over the past two years, he has made 75 appearances for Monaco across all competitions, contributing six goals and 11 assists. His dominant performances in Ligue 1 make him a promising addition.

Next Steps for Chelsea’s Midfield
Chelsea is expected to finalize Fernandez's transfer to Manchester City soon and officially announce Camara’s arrival. Camara will join a revamped midfield that already features summer signings Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson. Xabi Alonso faces the challenge of integrating these new players as Chelsea prepare for upcoming Premier League matches.
