Cole Palmer's Future at Manchester United: Gallas Weighs In

Cole Palmer’s Manchester United pull is not going away. If anything, it’s getting louder.

The Chelsea playmaker, who spent 13 years coming through the ranks at Manchester City, continues to be dragged into the narrative of a move across the divide to Old Trafford. This time, it is former Chelsea defender William Gallas insisting that a switch to United feels almost inevitable – just not yet.

Gallas: “He will definitely go to Manchester United”

Palmer only arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2023, Chelsea paying £42.5m to prise him away from City. He has since become the centrepiece of their attacking rebuild, a rare bright spark in a turbulent era.

But the story that refuses to die is his connection to United. Palmer grew up a United supporter despite his long association with City, and that detail continues to fuel speculation.

Earlier this year, claims surfaced that the England international was homesick in London and that United were ready to exploit the situation. Palmer publicly knocked that down, denying both homesickness and any truth in talk of a move to Old Trafford.

Gallas, though, is not convinced the chapter is closed – only delayed.

“I don’t think Cole Palmer will go right now. I don’t think it’s time to go right now,” he told iPredicta, before doubling down on what he sees as Palmer’s long-term destiny.

“He will definitely go to Manchester United in the future if he’s a big fan, if he’s got a dream to play for Man United, he will definitely go there, but right now I don’t think so.

“I think he needs to have one more big season as he did two years ago, before he got his injury problem, then he might move.”

For Gallas, the route is clear: dominate at Chelsea again, then cash in the childhood dream.

United’s Chelsea connection grows

While Palmer stays put in west London for now, Old Trafford has already welcomed another former Chelsea talent.

Andrey Santos has completed a move to United, signing a five-year contract after the club agreed an initial £48m fee, with a further £2m in add-ons. The Brazilian midfielder left Stamford Bridge in search of regular minutes, something that never truly materialised during his time in blue.

His first days as a United player came with a familiar name flashing up on his phone.

“I’m so excited to be here. So pleased,” Santos said after the move was confirmed, before revealing a message from Palmer.

“I got a message from Cole [Palmer], he sent a message because he was born here [Manchester], so he knows everything here.

“He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this, a lot of things. So I'm so excited to be here in Manchester with my new teammates.”

A simple good-luck text, nothing more on the surface. But it underlines a curious thread: Palmer, the boyhood United fan and current Chelsea star, advising a former Chelsea teammate on life in Manchester while the transfer rumour mill continues to circle around his own future.

For now, Chelsea build around him, United build without him, and Gallas insists the story is only on pause. If Palmer does produce the “one more big season” demanded of him, the next chapter in this saga will not be quiet.
