Colombia Edges Ghana to Secure World Cup Last-16 Spot

Colombia held their nerve in Kansas City, edged a tight contest 1-0, and claimed the final ticket to the World Cup last 16. One clean strike, one well-worked move, and a defensive display that refused to bend were enough to book a showdown with Switzerland in Vancouver.

The decisive moment came early. Only 14 minutes had passed when Colombia were forced into their first reshuffle: Jhon Cordoba went off injured, Luis Suarez came on, and the entire tone of the night changed in a heartbeat. Colombia responded with another surge. The pressure finally told when Diaz stole in at the far post to convert what looked like a killer second. Celebrations erupted, but only briefly. The offside flag went up, cutting the noise and dragging the scoreline back to 1-0. Diaz soon forced Ati Zigi into action again, finishing off another sweeping move with a low effort that the Ghana goalkeeper read well and smothered.
