Estevao Opens Up on World Cup Heartbreak and His Unexpected Return to Brazil Under Ancelotti

Estevao, the Chelsea winger, shared his feelings about rejoining the Brazil national team after recovering from a serious injury that kept him out of the 2026 World Cup. The 19-year-old was called up by Carlo Ancelotti for upcoming friendlies against Australia and India, marking his first international appearance since April 2026.

A Tough Road Back After Injury

Estevao suffered a severe right hamstring tear while playing for Chelsea, which prevented him from participating in the World Cup. Despite receiving conservative treatment at Palmeiras, his former club, he had to watch the tournament from the sidelines, a challenging experience for any athlete.

“My family was fundamental to me during this injury period, which isn’t very easy for an athlete,” Estevao said. “We missed a very special moment, but they were always by my side. I also used a lot of the word resilience, facing each day, forgetting what happened and focusing on the future.”

The winger highlighted how his family’s support and his faith helped him stay strong mentally throughout the recovery.

Ancelotti’s Faith as Motivation

Before the injury, Estevao had a promising start internationally, scoring against teams like Chile, South Korea, Senegal, and Tunisia. He now looks forward to reclaiming his spot alongside stars such as Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior.

“I don’t think it’s anxiety, I think it’s a privilege,” he explained. “Every player who is chosen here is privileged. Being chosen by Ancelotti is a privilege for me. I see this as motivation to give my best every day in training and in games.”
