Cesc Fabregas Demands New Striker After Como’s Shock Win Over Napoli

Cesc Fabregas has set a clear deadline for Como’s board to bring in attacking reinforcements, despite guiding his team to a stunning 2-1 triumph over Napoli. With the summer transfer window closing soon, the Spanish coach insists on strengthening his squad to cope with Serie A, Coppa Italia, and their upcoming Champions League debut.

Como’s win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona was one of their biggest results in recent years. Goals from Martin Baturina and Anastasios Douvikas earned all three points, but Fabregas quickly shifted focus to the challenges ahead. He knows managing three competitions demands a deeper squad, particularly in attack. Negotiations with Fiorentina over Moise Kean are underway as part of these plans.

Striker Needed to Handle Busy Schedule

Fabregas did not hide his frustration about the forward options currently available. “Obviously, I’m expecting a striker,” he told DAZN. “Douvikas can’t play in Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League alone. We can’t compete on three fronts with just one striker.”

He recalled last season’s struggles when relying heavily on Alvaro Morata, who missed months due to injury. “We had to play with a false nine many times. Playing every three days at this level is tough without enough depth upfront.”

Spotlight on Luis Milla’s Influence

While calling for new signings, Fabregas praised the contributions of midfielder Luis Milla, who joined Como this summer. At 31, Milla has become a key figure in midfield, starting his second straight game against Napoli.

“Milla is very underrated in Spain, but it’s normal. There are so many great players that sometimes we forget others who aren’t Pedri or Rodri,” Fabregas said. “I’ve followed him for a long time. His career has steadily risen, and now it’s his moment to shine in the Champions League. We aim to bring young players here, but I’m happy for him and many others.”

Beating Napoli also marked a personal milestone for Fabregas, who admitted he had learned a lot from past encounters with Massimiliano Allegri’s teams, especially during Allegri’s time at AC Milan last season.

“This victory means a lot. I learned so much from the recent game against Milan. Today, we read the game well. We played very well in the first half; in the second, we knew we faced champions but held strong. The quality of Napoli’s substitutes made me think they had more changes left. It felt like being in a sauna,” Fabregas reflected.

Keeping Expectations Grounded

The win over Napoli raised hopes among Como supporters, but Fabregas urged caution. He warned that progress must be steady and focused, looking ahead to the next challenge without distraction.

“We have an important match against Genoa coming up. Many games will see the opposition stronger. They have an 80% chance to win, we have 20%. That’s reality,” Fabregas stated firmly.
