Flixton FC Denies Jadon Sancho Transfer Rumors

For a few surreal hours, a 10th-tier club in Greater Manchester found itself at the centre of a global transfer storm.

Flixton FC, more used to modest crowds and local headlines, had to release an official statement to confirm they are not, in fact, trying to sign Jadon Sancho.

The 26-year-old former Manchester United winger, now a free agent after his contract expired on July 1, has been using Flixton’s facilities to stay fit while he weighs up offers from around the world. A simple training session turned into a full-blown saga.

It started with a video.

Sancho, stood on the non-league club’s pristine surface, praised what he saw.

"You've got a nice layout here," he said in the clip. "It's my first time around this area, and it's the first time I've seen a nice pitch [in this area] apart from United and City."

Those few seconds were enough. Social media did the rest. Rumours snowballed that Sancho was considering an astonishing drop down the English pyramid, and Flixton suddenly found themselves fending off questions more suited to a Champions League side than a 10th-tier outfit.

The club decided they had to shut it down.

In an official statement, Flixton owner Christopher Garcia moved quickly to spell out the reality of Sancho’s visit.

"Over the past few days, we've seen a number of posts and comments circulating regarding Jadon Sancho's visit to Flixton FC," he said.

"To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.

"We're proud that the quality of our pitch and facilities made Flixton a place where a player of his calibre felt comfortable training, and he is welcome to train at Flixton FC whenever he wishes."

The message was clear: no fairytale signing, no secret talks, just a world-class player borrowing a pitch.

Garcia also made a point of highlighting Sancho’s conduct during the visit.

"During his visit, Jadon was nothing but professional, humble, and generous with his time. After completing his session, he happily met with young supporters, posed for photos, signed autographs, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

"Jadon is a world-class footballer who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of. He deserves respect for both his accomplishments and the way he conducted himself during his visit, not the unwarranted criticism that has followed."

For Sancho, this strange Flixton episode is just the latest twist in a turbulent few years.

United paid £73 million to prise him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, expecting a cornerstone of their attack. The move never truly ignited. Across a difficult spell at Old Trafford, he produced 12 goals in 83 appearances, his time at the Theatre of Dreams defined more by frustration than fulfilment.

His contract finally ran down and expired on July 1, leaving him as one of the most high-profile free agents on the market. Last season’s loan spell under Unai Emery at Aston Villa brought a measure of redemption: Europa League silverware and flashes of the old Sancho, even if he often operated as a secondary option, starting only 18 of his 39 games.

The non-league chatter may have been fantasy, but the interest in Sancho is very real.

Qatari side Al-Rayyan are among the clubs to have made a formal enquiry, offering him the prospect of a reset in the Middle East. He is also understood to be open to a range of paths, from the Saudi Pro League to a return to the Bundesliga, where he previously thrived with Dortmund and built the reputation that persuaded United to spend so heavily.

For now, he remains in limbo: unattached, training alone, dropping into a 10th-tier ground that briefly became the most talked-about pitch in football.
