Gary Neville Predicts Arsenal Will Win Premier League Again Due to Their Defensive Strength

Gary Neville believes Arsenal's defense sets them apart as the leading candidates to win the Premier League this season. Despite strong performances from Manchester United and Chelsea, Neville feels Mikel Arteta has built a defensive unit unmatched by any other team.

Arsenal’s Defensive Edge

Neville highlights Arsenal's recruitment at the back as a key factor in their superiority. The club recently signed Ezri Konsa, adding to an already impressive lineup of defenders including Jurrien Timber, Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Piero Hincapie, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

"It's incredible what Arsenal have done really, to sign Ezri Konsa, because they’ve got Timber, White, Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly," Neville said. "They’re doubling down on defense, determined not to concede goals and making sure they’re miles ahead defensively - and they are. That will win them a title again."

He added that if you compared Arsenal’s attackers with those of Manchester United, Liverpool, or Chelsea, you might keep Arsenal’s forwards. But when it comes to defense or midfield, Arsenal stands out.

Concerns Over Rival Teams’ Defensive Stability

Though Chelsea won against Brighton, Neville doubts the solidity of their defense under manager Xabi Alonso. He pointed out the lack of a cohesive unit, noting the team's recent goalkeeper change to Emiliano Martinez and the defensive lineup featuring Levi Colwill, Maxence Lacroix, and Wesley Fofana.

"I see very talented defenders in many teams but I don’t see units," Neville explained. "But Arsenal, with Timber, Calafiori, Saliba, and Gabriel in front of goalkeeper David Raya, that’s a proper back-four. That’s the only real team I look at right now."

He mentioned that clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool had solid defensive units when they were winning titles, but those days seem behind them.

Neville also voiced concerns about Liverpool and Manchester United’s defensive depth. Despite Liverpool having a strong attack with players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, they lack reliable full-back options for manager Andoni Iraola. Meanwhile, United had to rely on Leny Yoro as cover out wide instead of a specialist full-back.

Upcoming Match Could Cement Arsenal’s Status

Arsenal can join Manchester City, Chelsea, and Hull City at the top of the table with a win against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Villa aims to recover after a heavy 4-0 loss to Brighton in their opening game.
