Hansi Flick Confident Lamine Yamal Is Regaining Form Ahead of Rayo Vallecano Match

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed strong belief in the resurgence of young star Lamine Yamal. After battling a serious hamstring injury and international duty pressures, the 19-year-old winger seems to be rediscovering his top form and joy on the pitch.

Recovery Journey and Return to Play

Yamal’s recovery from an April hamstring injury has been challenging. His early season performances sparked concern, but Flick assured fans that the teenager is close to his best level again. Although his first match back against Elche was quiet, flashes of brilliance surfaced during the recent win over Athletic Bilbao. Flick sees a clear upward path as they prepare for their La Liga trip to Rayo Vallecano.

"I know everyone is worried about how is Lamine, how is he doing. And of course, look at his situation, he played a World Cup after a huge injury," Flick said. "Now he’s coming back after three weeks holiday... and also the first game maybe was not his best game. But I said this, I was very happy that he starts the game and he worked for the team."

Building Stamina Through Game Time

Flick highlighted the importance of Yamal playing full matches as part of his rehabilitation. The coach praised his endurance in the Bilbao game where Yamal lasted all 90 minutes, showing glimpses of his high-level skill. Flick also mentioned observing excellent efforts during training, even if it wasn’t obvious to everyone.

"He played 90 minutes against Bilbao. And for him at the moment, it’s also good to have 90 minutes on the pitch," Flick said. "We saw him in some situations really on this top level. Everyone loves Lamine and he’s in a good way. And we have to support him and we do that."

Mental State Improving

The psychological side of Yamal’s comeback is vital. After looking frustrated in the season opener, the youngster now appears much happier during training sessions. Flick noted that smiling every day isn’t realistic for anyone, including himself, but Yamal’s improved mood is a positive sign for his creativity and confidence.

"Of course, it’s always good when the players are smiling, but it’s not every day the same day. I’m also not smiling every day -- it’s like that," Flick added.

Squad Depth and Striker Update

Flick touched on the broader team situation, particularly in attack. With Raphinha filling in as a makeshift striker due to the failed pursuit of Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, the coach remains content with his current squad. He praised sporting director Deco’s efforts to strengthen the team and insisted there’s no pressure despite transfer window uncertainties.

"Of course I’m happy with my team, Deco is working on that to strengthen the team. We don’t have pressure," Flick stated.
