Hedges Reunites with Eustace as Derby Completes Free-Transfer Deal

Ryan Hedges is back under John Eustace’s command, this time in Derby County colours, after completing a free-transfer move to Pride Park.

The 31-year-old winger has signed an initial one-year contract with the Rams, who hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Hedges left Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season when his deal at Ewood Park expired, ending a four-year spell in East Lancashire. His final campaign there brought him under the guidance of Eustace during the manager’s stint in charge from 2024 to 2025 – a link that has now been revived in the East Midlands.

The former Wales international, capped three times by his country, has already been embedded in Derby’s preparations. He reported for pre-season with the Rams last month and has featured in friendlies against Alfreton Town and SC Freiburg, giving supporters an early glimpse of what he will offer out wide.

Hedges becomes Derby’s sixth signing of the summer window, adding experience and European know-how to Eustace’s squad. His career has taken him from Aberdeen – where he played in both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League – to Barnsley, Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient and Stevenage Borough.

Now he arrives at Derby with a familiar face in the dugout and a short-term deal that carries a clear challenge: make this reunion count.
