Ilia Topuria Accuses Justin Gaethje After UFC Defeat

After suffering his first career defeat at the hands of Justin Gaethje this past June, Ilia Topuria has broken his silence on social media with a bold accusation. The Spanish-Georgian fighter entered UFC Freedom 250 as the favorite but faced a harsh defeat in what turned out to be a one-sided contest outside the second round.

Gaethje delivered a punishing left-right combination in the third round, causing severe damage to Topuria and prompting medical staff to recommend stopping the fight. Despite this, referee Marc Goddard allowed the bout to continue due to concerns about Topuria’s vision. Eventually, Topuria's corner halted the fight, handing Gaethje a TKO victory.

Following his title win, Gaethje was honored inside the Octagon by former US President Donald Trump during the event celebrating his 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary. Meanwhile, Topuria left the arena with non-displaced fractures in both orbital bones, with significant injury to his right eye, increasing his risk for future facial damage.

Topuria's Return and Accusation on Social Media

Now cleared medically to fight again, Topuria took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his comeback and made a sharp claim against Gaethje. His post read:

"Final medical tests done. I’m back. To all the clowns who’ve been talking s*** and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls. Thanks to everyone for the support.Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon."

Gaethje responded swiftly, dismissing the allegation and Topuria’s performance with a reply:

"94 days and the best you could come up with is a lame excuse. As terrible as your last performance. Do better, kid."

Later, Gaethje addressed the accusation in a video exchange with a fan on X, stating he’s never tampered with opponents and confirming he is open to a rematch despite previous comments to the contrary. He added that Topuria’s claim is not a serious attempt to secure another fight with him.
