The anticipation of India cruising to another gold was tempered by a close warm-up game against hosts Japan. The match was shortened by rain to five overs per side, with India scoring only 32 runs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 16 runs, but Japan’s bowlers made early breakthroughs. Japan nearly pulled off an upset, falling short by just two runs.

Due to weather, the final could not be completed. Organizers awarded the gold medal to India based on tournament seeding, as India were the higher-ranked team going into the final.
