IShowSpeed Takes Over Thrive City During World Cup Watch Party

SAN FRANCISCO — Thrive City was supposed to be about Portugal. It quickly became about IShowSpeed.

What began as a routine World Cup watch party outside Chase Center on Thursday turned into a full-blown internet event, as word spread that one of the world’s biggest streamers had unexpectedly dropped in. Within hours, the open plaza had morphed into a sea of phones, jerseys, and teenagers sprinting toward the same target.

IShowSpeed, who commands an audience of 56 million across his platforms, was in town to watch Portugal’s match and stream the experience live. Once fans realized he was at the entertainment district, they poured into Thrive City, turning a casual communal viewing into one of the hottest tickets in San Francisco.

"Unfortunately, I had two flights, my first flight got cancelled and my second flight, I ordered a jet and my jet on the windshield broke. So, both of my flights got cancelled and I got stuck in San Francisco," he said.
