Joining Barça: A Childhood Dream Realized
Playing for Barça, he knows, is not a career move. It is a verdict.
“Playing for Barça is the greatest thing, it comes with a lot of responsibility, but I’m ready,” he says, the words carrying the mix of awe and defiance that tends to separate those who merely arrive at Camp Nou from those who truly belong.
“The players who have worn the shirt before carry a lot of weight. You don’t sign for a club like this every day, I’m very excited.”
The badge lands heavy on the chest. He welcomes it.
The move came together late, at least from his side of the table. Talks had been bubbling in the background, but nothing concrete enough to cling to. Then, suddenly, Barça stepped forward with intent.
“I found out quite late. I knew there were talks. As soon as I knew Barça was a serious option, I had no doubts,” he explains. No hesitation, no second-guessing. The choice, for him, was obvious.
“It’s the best club in the world. It’s a childhood dream and now it’s come true.”
Dreams like this are usually formed on television screens, in schoolyards, in the echo of famous names. Now they will be lived in the company of some of the brightest young talents in the game.
“Playing with Lamine and the rest is exciting. They are top players, the best in the world. I saw it when we played against them,” he admits. That previous meeting left a mark: the noise, the speed, the sense that Barça’s midfield could suffocate you without ever raising its voice.
“Playing at St. James’ Park is difficult because of the intense atmosphere, but Frenkie and Pedri outplayed us.”
That memory lingers. So does the lesson. On one of Europe’s most hostile stages, he watched Frenkie de Jong and Pedri take the ball, keep it, and twist the game to their rhythm. Now he walks into their dressing room, not as an opponent measuring the distance, but as a teammate expected to close it.
Responsibility. Weight of the shirt. Childhood dream.
He has named the stakes himself. Now comes the part that really counts: proving he was right to say he’s ready.
