KCB Appoints Peter Okidi as Assistant Coach for Title Challenge

KCB Football Club have moved decisively in the dugout, appointing former Shabana head coach Peter Okidi as assistant to Robert Matano ahead of the new FKF Premier League season.

The Bankers confirmed the move on Friday, 31 July, bringing in a coach whose journey through Kenyan football has been anything but straightforward, but consistently upward.

“Peter Okidi…will deputize head coach Robert Matano ahead of the new season,” the club announced, hailing the “wealth of coaching experience” he brings with him. It is a clear statement: KCB want more than another solid campaign. They want a first league crown.

From brief stints to the big stage

Okidi’s most recent stop was a short, two-month spell at National Super League side Mombasa United, where he came in to replace the dismissed Gilbert Selebwa. Before that, he parted ways with Shabana in March this year by mutual consent, a separation that felt more like a pause than an ending for a coach still on the rise.

Now he steps into one of the most demanding roles in the top flight, working under Matano, one of the most seasoned tacticians in the local game, for at least the 2026–2027 campaign. For Okidi, it is both a challenge and a platform.

His CV has been built steadily across the country: head coach at Nakuru All Stars in 2013, a spell at Nakuru Bucks, and a key role in the national setup with the Kenya U15 boys’ side. Each job has added another layer of credibility. This one adds pressure.

KCB sharpen the entire backroom

Okidi’s arrival is not an isolated tweak. It is part of a wider rebuild of KCB’s technical bench as the club tightens every screw ahead of a title assault.

The Bankers have brought in former Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch as their new goalkeeper coach, putting one of the league’s most trusted hands in charge of a critical department. They have also moved to modernize their analysis arm, appointing Tobby Owino as Video Analyst to bolster performance and opposition scouting.

Coaching depth. Specialist training. Data and video support. KCB are layering their structure like a club that expects to be in the conversation when the trophy is handed out.

Okidi, once the man in the main seat at several clubs, now steps into a different kind of responsibility: helping Matano turn all that planning into a historic first Premier League title.
