Lamine Yamal Embraces Barcelona's Drive for Champions League Glory

Lamine Yamal, the young star at FC Barcelona, insists that the club's intense focus on winning the Champions League is something positive. He argues that aiming for European success is the only right mindset for a club like Barça.

Since their last Champions League victory in 2015, Barcelona has made progress under their German coach Hansi Flick, reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals. Now, as the 2026-27 season unfolds, the Champions League remains a top target.

Confidence Without Overconfidence

Speaking to Movistar, Yamal shared his thoughts: "I like that people come to the dressing room believing we can win the Champions League. The problem would be if someone said we were going to win it no matter what because you never know for sure. But being obsessed with winning it is good in the end."

He reminded fans of Barcelona's rich history: "We are Barça, a team that has had moments as the best in history and lifted the Champions League trophy. We have the squad now to do it, and it would feel cowardly not to aim for the Champions League this year while only focusing on the domestic league."

Chasing Multiple Titles

Despite the emphasis on Europe, Yamal hasn't lost sight of La Liga. He envisions the team securing both major trophies this season.

"We are going for the League. We can win both the League and the Champions League," he explained. "It’s important for us to stick together, especially during tough moments in games. Those 20 minutes where things get difficult can make or break a season."
