Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona’s Rodri Signing and Reflects on His Emotional Camp Nou Departure

Robert Lewandowski, now with Chicago Fire in MLS, has expressed strong support for Barcelona’s acquisition of Rodri from Manchester City. The Polish striker believes the Spanish midfielder brings vital experience and leadership to Hansi Flick's squad after Lewandowski’s own exit left a leadership gap.

Rodri's Role in Filling Leadership Void

After Lewandowski left Camp Nou for the United States, Flick sought to fill the void by signing Rodri. The midfielder, a World Cup winner, is expected to take on key responsibilities within the team, providing stability both offensively and defensively.

"He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence," Lewandowski told Radio Marca. "He’s the kind of experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now."

Reflecting on Four Years at Barcelona

Lewandowski looked back on his time at Barcelona, where he spent four successful seasons starting in 2022 after transferring from Bayern Munich. During his stay, he helped the club win three La Liga titles and earned the Pichichi trophy.

"It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona," Lewandowski said. "But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now."

Adjusting to Life in the United States

The transition from Europe to Major League Soccer has required patience for Lewandowski. Moving to Chicago means adapting to a different culture and style of play, which the striker acknowledges takes time.

"It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States," he added.

Keeping an Eye on Barcelona’s Progress

Despite focusing on his new challenges in MLS, Lewandowski plans to stay connected to Barcelona’s journey under Flick. With Rodri now a central figure in midfield, the club aims to build on its recent success.

"I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former team-mates," Lewandowski concluded. "I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games."
