Liverpool Pursues Ajax's Rising Star Mika Godts

Liverpool’s winger hunt is not slowing down. Not after this summer’s opening move, and certainly not after watching one of Europe’s most coveted forwards slip towards Madrid.

They have already paid £35 million to prise Victor Munoz from Osasuna, beating Newcastle United to a 22-year-old left-sided winger they believe can grow into a long-term starter. That was phase one. Phase two was meant to be Yan Diomande, with Liverpool understood to be preparing an £86 million offer for the RB Leipzig forward. That door is closing fast. Diomande now looks destined for Real Madrid.

So Liverpool pivot. Quickly.

Liverpool eye Ajax’s rising star

Attention has turned to Amsterdam and to Mika Godts, the latest winger to emerge from Ajax’s production line with numbers that make Europe’s elite sit up.

Last season, the 21-year-old delivered what club insiders have called “superstar” output: 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances. Those are not padded, pre-season figures. They are the return of a young attacker who has learned to dictate games in the final third.

He has not eased off. Ajax’s 2026/27 campaign has opened with back-to-back 4-1 wins over Vojvodina in UEFA Conference League qualifying, and Godts has supplied an assist in each of those matches. Different opponent, same influence. His form has become impossible to ignore.

It hasn’t just been Liverpool watching. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest in the Belgian, each of them looking at the same profile: a left-sided attacker comfortable drifting inside, productive, and still years away from his peak.

TEAMtalk now lists Liverpool among the serious suitors. The message to Anfield is clear: if they want Godts, they cannot wait around.

PSG make their move

The urgency stems from Paris.

Over the weekend, Liverpool and several Premier League rivals were informed that Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their pursuit of the Ajax winger. The French champions had tracked Diomande as well, only to miss out on that race. Their response has been swift.

PSG are understood to have held positive discussions over a deal for Godts, with football advisor Luis Campos a major driving force. Campos is a long-time admirer and believes the winger fits neatly into Luis Enrique’s long-term plans at the Parc des Princes – mobile, technically sharp, and adaptable across the frontline.

Godts is said to be open to a move to Ligue 1. He knows what PSG can offer: trophies, Champions League nights, a global stage. He also knows he would be walking into fierce competition for a starting place, with no guaranteed pathway into the XI.

Ajax value him at around £51 million. For a winger who has yet to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, it is a bold price tag. Compared to the £86 million being discussed for Diomande, though, Godts represents a cut-price alternative with similar upside and far less strain on a club’s wage structure.

Ajax ready to sell – on their terms

Inside Ajax, there is no pretence. Technical director Jordi Cruyff has already gone public.

“Godts will leave,” he said at the weekend, “but only at the right time and for the right price.”

That line does two things at once. It invites bids, and it sets the bar. Ajax are not in the business of holding on to breakout stars when the market peaks, but they will not be rushed into a discount sale either. With multiple Premier League clubs circling and PSG already at the table, they can afford to be patient and firm.

For Liverpool, this is the familiar terrain of a modern transfer battle: a player they like, a price they must judge carefully, and heavyweight competition that will not wait. They have already beaten Newcastle to Munoz. Now the question is whether they are prepared to step into a bidding war with PSG and their domestic rivals for Godts – or watch another major attacking target head elsewhere as the window ticks down.
