Liverpool Fans Demand Clarity Over Jeff Bezos Minority Stake Proposal

The Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly has called for clear answers from Fenway Sports Group amid reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is involved in a consortium preparing to buy a significant minority share in the Premier League club.

Supporters Seek Details on Ownership and Club Control

Following reports that Bezos is part of a group aiming to acquire a 30 percent stake in Liverpool, Spirit of Shankly (SoS) has formally requested an urgent meeting with club officials. The fan organization wants to understand how this potential sale might influence decision-making and operations at Anfield.

Spirit of Shankly's Concerns Over Club Values and Future

"We reiterated that, given the events that led to FSG's purchase of the club, who owns it and how they control it - putting the interests of LFC and its supporters first - is fundamental to us all," said SoS in a statement."The latest report of a 30% sale and the consortium set up to buy it is significant. The ownership and custodianship of our club is paramount to SoS and all supporters.""We have witnessed similar sales at other clubs resulting in notable changes in the running of that club and football operations, leading to decisions and behaviours that many would not want to see at Liverpool."

Consortium Combines Wealth With Limited Sports Experience

Jeff Bezos holds an estimated personal fortune of £210 billion and owns assets such as The Washington Post and aerospace company Blue Origin. Despite his vast wealth, he lacks a background in sports team ownership, although he has been linked previously to NFL franchises.

The investment group also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who has experience in sports business after spending 18 years as co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers before stepping down recently.

FSG Awaits Formal Response Before Finalizing Deal

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s parent company, has remained open to outside investors. Since their purchase in 2010 for around £300 million, Liverpool’s value has soared to roughly £4.5 billion today. Last month, FSG confirmed interest from the Bhatia-led consortium for a strategic minority investment.

Fans now wait for details on potential board representation and influence before any agreement is finalized.
