Liverpool Pursue PSG's Bradley Barcola After Diomande Decision

Liverpool’s post-Mohamed Salah rebuild has taken a sharp turn towards Paris.

With Yan Diomande intent on choosing Paris Saint-Germain over Anfield, Liverpool have moved quickly, opening talks for PSG winger Bradley Barcola in an attempt to reshape their attack before the window closes.

Salah’s departure this summer has left a gaping hole on the right of Liverpool’s front line. Fenway Sports Group had long earmarked Diomande of RB Leipzig as the heir to the Egyptian, and Liverpool went as far as holding discussions with the Ivory Coast star’s representatives while he impresses at the 2026 World Cup.

Then the plan hit a wall. Twice.

Leipzig do not want to sell. And the 19-year-old, for all Liverpool’s interest, prefers a move to PSG.

So Liverpool have pivoted – and fast.

Barcola emerges as Liverpool’s new priority

Bradley Barcola, once seen as part of PSG’s long-term future, is now at the centre of Liverpool’s contingency plan.

Sky Sport Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on June 29 that Liverpool are in direct contact with PSG over the France international. Posting on X at 12:53pm that day, Tavolieri revealed that PSG have already held direct discussions with several clubs, including Liverpool, regarding Barcola’s future, adding that Diomande’s impending transfer effectively opens the door for the Frenchman to leave this summer.

That was the first indication of a genuine opening. Liverpool have since tried to force it wider.

TEAMtalk now report that Liverpool have made fresh contact with Barcola’s agents this week. Their sources say the club have spoken again with the 23-year-old’s representatives in recent days and received renewed encouragement: Barcola is preparing to leave the Parc des Princes before the window shuts.

For Liverpool’s recruitment team, that message matters almost as much as the fee. A player ready to move, ready for a new role, is half the battle won.

A serial winner on the market

Barcola is not a cast-off. He is leaving, if he leaves, as a serial winner.

Since arriving at PSG in 2023, the winger has collected silverware at a relentless pace: three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France triumphs and two Champions League crowns. He has grown in the glare of one of Europe’s most demanding dressing rooms and now finds himself on the biggest international stage as part of France’s squad at the 2026 World Cup.

That pedigree is exactly what Liverpool need to soften the blow of losing Salah – a wide forward accustomed to pressure, trophies and expectation.

But it comes at a price.

TEAMtalk claim PSG value Barcola at €120 million (£103.3m). That figure is no coincidence; it effectively mirrors the fee PSG would be expected to pay Leipzig for Diomande. One star in, one star out, with the numbers neatly aligned on Paris’s balance sheet.

For Liverpool, it poses a stark question: are they prepared to commit Salah-level money to a 23-year-old who, for all his honours, is still emerging as a leading man rather than a supporting act?

The talks with PSG and Barcola’s camp suggest they are at least willing to explore it. The need is clear, the target is defined, and the market is moving. Now the decision is simple, and brutal: pay the price for Barcola, or risk entering the new season without a marquee successor to one of the greatest forwards in the club’s history.
