Manchester United's Summer Transfer Window: Carrick's Overhaul and New Signings

Manchester United enter the final month of the summer window with the squad still very much in motion and Michael Carrick’s rebuild gathering pace on multiple fronts.

Five signings are already through the door, but the noise around Old Trafford suggests United are nowhere near done.

Carrick’s quiet overhaul

Carrick has moved quickly to reshape the spine of his side. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos headline a midfield refresh designed to add control and legs, while Karl Darlow has arrived as experienced cover for Senne Lammens, who impressed enough last season to claim the No.1 spot.

Behind them, the club have looked further down the line. Young goalkeeper Kit Margetson and highly rated winger Tynan Thompson have been brought in as long-term projects, a nod to a recruitment strategy that is no longer only about the next game, but the next generation.

Even so, the goalkeeping department remains restless.

Andre Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan, and both Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek are being linked with moves away. For a position that looked settled with Lammens’ emergence, the churn has been striking.

And it could have been even busier.

Agent reveals United enquiry for World Cup standout

Orlando Gill, San Lorenzo’s goalkeeper and one of Paraguay’s standout performers at this summer’s World Cup, has been on United’s radar.

Gill’s agent, Mario Jara, has confirmed that the club made an approach as they scanned the market before sealing Darlow’s arrival.

“We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany,” Jara told DSports Radio. “There were enquiries with Manchester United. We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.

“The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt.

“We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition.”

United, having already secured Darlow, are not expected to push hard for Gill now, but the enquiry underlines how aggressively the club have been scouring the market for competition and depth behind Lammens.

The message is clear: nobody in that department can feel entirely comfortable.

Juventus decision could open door for £42m winger

While the goalkeeper carousel spins, the more glamorous noise surrounds the wide areas.

United have been linked with Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao, and the Italian club’s own transfer moves may have just nudged the door open.

Juventus are closing in on Bayer Leverkusen prospect Kerim Alajbegovic, and the knock-on effect is brutal but familiar: someone has to go. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turin club are prepared to cash in on Conceicao, with an asking price believed to be between £34m and £42m.

United are not alone. Liverpool have also made enquiries for the 23-year-old, who made 42 appearances for Juventus last season and has developed into a sharp, direct attacking outlet.

A Premier League move is viewed as a strong possibility, with Juventus needing to balance the books after moving for Alajbegovic. Conceicao, still young but already hardened by Serie A demands, represents a saleable asset in a market that pays a premium for pace and end product.

For United, the equation is simple enough. They have invested in the future with Thompson, but Carrick’s side still lack depth and variety in the wide positions at first-team level. A player of Conceicao’s profile would not arrive as a luxury; he would come as a weapon.

One month remains. The squad has been reshaped, the foundations laid, and the transfer window’s final stretch will decide whether this is a tidy refresh or a statement summer.
