Manchester United Target Francisco Conceicao in Zirkzee Swap Deal
Manchester United are testing Juventus’ resolve over Francisco Conceicao, driving a deal that could reshape the attacks of two European heavyweights and trigger a wider summer reshuffle.
According to Sportmediaset, United have moved to the front of the queue for the Portuguese winger, who could leave Turin after just two seasons. Michael Carrick wants a live-wire wide player to sharpen his forward line, and Conceicao fits the profile: direct, relentless, and already hardened by Serie A.
From loan gamble to Juventus cornerstone
Conceicao arrived at Juventus from Porto on loan in the summer of 2024, a relatively low-risk bet at the time. That changed quickly.
Under Igor Tudor, and then Luciano Spalletti, the 22-year-old forced his way from promising squad option to “fundamental piece” of the project. Juventus didn’t hesitate, activating their option and redeeming him for €30 million. It looked like smart business. It still does.
His rise has not gone unnoticed in England. Liverpool are tracking developments, keeping a watchful eye on a player whose blend of energy and end product suits the Premier League. Yet it is United who are driving the talks, described as the most determined suitors in the race.
Juventus now value Conceicao between €50m and €60m. That price tag reflects both his impact and his trajectory. But United believe there is another route.
United’s pitch: cash plus Zirkzee
Rather than pay the full fee, United are pushing a swap structure. The proposal, as reported, is clear: €30m plus Joshua Zirkzee in exchange for Conceicao.
For United, Zirkzee is no longer at the centre of their plans. The Dutch striker’s role has diminished in Manchester, and a move back to Italy appeals to him. His technical profile, link-up play and Serie A experience make him an attractive chip in negotiations.
For Juventus, the timing is ideal. The Bianconeri are actively searching for a new forward this summer, and Spalletti is an admirer of Zirkzee. A deal that lands them a striker he likes and a cash injection, while cashing in on a winger signed for €30m only a short time ago, is bound to catch the board’s attention.
Inside Continassa, the structure is being studied as something close to tailor-made: United get their explosive winger, Juventus get their No 9 and money to reinvest.
Mendes at the controls
When a move of this complexity gathers pace, one name usually appears. Here, it is Jorge Mendes.
The super-agent is heavily involved, mediating between the clubs and trying to align sporting needs with financial realities. His task: build a package that satisfies Juventus’ valuation, United’s squad plans and the players’ ambitions.
Mendes is expected to present a formal offer to the Juventus hierarchy at Continassa in the coming days. That will be the first real test of how serious both sides are about pushing this over the line.
If Juventus accept the framework, the dominoes will start to fall quickly.
David’s future on the line
A Zirkzee arrival would have immediate consequences in Turin. Space must be cleared in the attacking department, and Jonathan David sits at the top of the list of potential departures.
The Canadian forward wants to stay. He has made that clear. But sentiment rarely wins against squad planning and balance sheets. With Lois Openda moving to Lyon and the expected arrival of Randal Kolo Muani, Juventus no longer consider David untouchable.
The board are ready to sanction a sale at around €30m. That figure puts him within reach for a cluster of ambitious clubs.
Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have already made preliminary inquiries, sensing an opportunity to grab a proven goalscorer entering his prime. From France, Rennes and Paris FC are showing firm interest as well, seeing David as a ready-made leader for their attacks.
If Zirkzee walks through the doors at Continassa, David may well be walking out of them shortly after.
A deal that defines two projects
Strip this down and the logic is stark. United want Conceicao as a statement piece for Carrick’s front line: a dynamic, touchline-hugging winger who can stretch games and hurt teams in transition. Juventus want a centre-forward who fits Spalletti’s ideas, and Zirkzee ticks those boxes while also helping balance the books.
Both clubs know the risks. Juventus would be losing a winger who has become integral in a short space of time. United would be parting with a striker who still carries upside. But the proposed swap, with cash on top, has the feel of a deal that fits the moment for each side.
Now it rests on Juventus’ answer when Mendes lays the offer on the table. Do they cash in on Conceicao to rebuild their attack, or hold their ground and dare United to find their wide-game changer somewhere else?
