Portuguese football icon Manuel Rui Costa made a heartfelt comeback to Florence, returning after a quarter of a century to take part in Fiorentina's centenary legends match. The event took place at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on September 2, 2026, marking the club's 100th anniversary. Rui Costa joined the Fiorentina All-Stars in a 7-3 exhibition win against Operazione Nostalgia.

"I didn’t come here just to please people, but for myself," said Rui Costa. "I spent the seven most beautiful years of my life in Florence, and I really wanted to relive those emotions tonight."

He also voiced his hope for the club’s future success. "Winning a trophy as captain here [Coppa Italia 2001] was the greatest pride of my career. Honestly, I don’t like the fact that I am the last captain to deliver a trophy to this club. Florence and Fiorentina deserve to taste victory again."

Franck Ribery Rekindles His Passion

Joining Rui Costa in the festivities was Franck Ribery, who enjoyed wearing the purple jersey once more and lined up in attack alongside former teammate Luca Toni. Ribery expressed his excitement at the crowd and the chance to play again with his old comrades.
