The club is in advanced talks with German coach Matthias Jaissle, currently managing Al-Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, to take over the reins.

According to The Athletic, Howe, 48, has informed Newcastle's board that he wishes to take a break from football after the last season, despite initially indicating he wanted to continue. The split is reportedly friendly, and the club had contingency plans ready. Jaissle has emerged as the leading candidate to assume control of the Magpies.

Jaissle’s Background and Achievements

Jaissle, aged 38, is considered one of Europe's promising young managers. He guided Al-Ahli to AFC Champions League Elite titles in both 2025 and 2026. It is notable that both Newcastle and Al-Ahli are owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Before joining Al-Ahli in 2023, Jaissle earned recognition at Red Bull Salzburg, winning back-to-back Austrian league titles and the Austrian Cup. His style emphasizes aggressive pressing and attacking football.

Howe’s Impact at Newcastle

Howe took charge in November 2021, following the PIF takeover, when Newcastle was 19th in the Premier League. He rescued them from relegation in his first season, then achieved a 4th place finish in 2022-23, securing Champions League qualification. He also led Newcastle to victory in the 2025 English Football League Cup against Liverpool, ending a 70-year trophy drought.
