Writing in his CF Bayern Insider column, Falk confirmed that the meeting in Madrid did indeed take place. He also acknowledged that Pérez may well have delivered that cheeky one-liner about eventually signing Olise.

But there was a crucial detail: tone.

According to Falk, this was a joke between two presidents who know each other well, not a declaration of war in the transfer market. A quip, not a threat. The kind of line you throw out with a smile, knowing full well that, for this summer at least, the boundaries are already set.

Behind the scenes, the relationship between the two clubs remains strong. There is even an understanding in place: Real Madrid will not move for Olise in this window. If, at any point in the future, they decide to seriously pursue the Frenchman, they will first inform Hainer and Bayern before making any contact with the player or his representatives.

In the hyper-aggressive world of modern transfers, that kind of gentleman’s agreement stands out.

Not this summer – but the door isn’t locked

So where does that leave Olise?

For now, in Munich. Bayern are clear. Madrid are, for once, restrained. The Frenchman is shining on the biggest international stage, his value rising with every decisive touch, but the market around him is frozen by design.

It makes his immediate future fairly simple: barring a dramatic twist, Michael Olise will not be wearing the white of Real Madrid this summer.

The long term, though, is far more intriguing. Agreements can be revisited. Positions can soften. A year from now, Bayern’s sporting project might look different. Madrid’s attack might need another spark. And that light-hearted joke at the Bernabéu could suddenly feel like the first line in a much more serious story.
