PSV's Key Summer Transfer Targets: Geertruida, Kostic, Sano

On the surface, PSV’s summer looks strangely calm. No flurry of announcements, no daily drip of transfer news. Yet behind the closed doors in Eindhoven, the work is very much underway.

Technical director Earnest Stewart has a clear to‑do list: a left-back, a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. Three positions, three priority names.

Geertruida Deal Edges Forward – With Competition

The most advanced file on Stewart’s desk is Lutsharel Geertruida. According to Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV have been working on the versatile defender “for several weeks already” and now have a personal agreement in place with the player.

That is only half the battle.

RB Leipzig want €20 million to let Geertruida go, and Feyenoord are also pushing to bring him in. PSV have their man convinced, but they are not alone at the negotiating table. The next move belongs to the clubs.

Kostic on the Radar, But Not Alone in the Queue

On the left flank, Filip Kostic sits high on PSV’s wishlist.

The Serbian is a free agent after leaving Juventus, which makes him an attractive proposition for a club that must balance ambition with budget. He does not come without competition, though. AEK Athens have already put a contract on the table, and Kostic has multiple options to weigh up.

For PSV, he would bring ready-made experience and delivery from the wing. For now, they wait on his decision.

Sano the Ideal Fit – With a Price Problem

In midfield, PSV have identified Kodai Sano as the ideal reinforcement.

The NEC midfielder is eager to make the move, and his agent, José Fortez Rodriguez, is also positive about the idea. The problem sits squarely with the numbers. NEC’s asking price is reportedly around €18 million, a figure PSV still consider too high at this stage.

The interest is serious. The fit is clear. The fee is not.

No Fire Sale, No Panic

One reason PSV can afford to be patient: there is no immediate pressure to sell.

Key players such as Mauro Júnior, Joey Veerman and Sergiño Dest have yet to secure moves away. That lack of outgoing transfers slows down the incoming business.

Mauro has gone a step further. At a press conference on Friday, he stated he will “definitely” stay at PSV. The Brazilian currently wears the captain’s armband while Jerdy Schouten recovers from a knee injury, and he looks set to remain a central figure in the dressing room.

Veerman and Dest are different cases. Both could leave if bids of around €20 million and €23 million respectively arrive, but so far there has been no concrete movement around either player. The market has not forced PSV’s hand.

As Elfrink put it, “They are players who would like to take a step abroad, but if they stay longer they obviously are not in the way.”

So PSV wait. The targets are chosen, the talks are underway, and the squad is stable enough to buy time.

The question now is not whether Eindhoven move, but when – and which of Geertruida, Kostic and Sano will be wearing red and white when the window closes.
