Reiss Nelson and Arsenal Agree to Part Ways as Forward Seeks New Opportunity

Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson has left the club following a mutual agreement to end his contract. The 26-year-old winger, who emerged from Arsenal's Hale End academy, is now a free agent and looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

A Fresh Start for Both Player and Club

The split comes as Nelson aims for more regular playing time, which was limited under manager Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium. Even though he was approaching the final year of his contract—with an option for an additional 12 months—Arsenal decided to release him now to make a move possible.

There’s already plenty of interest in Nelson from several Premier League teams and clubs abroad. West Ham United previously held discussions with Arsenal about a potential transfer. Nelson intends to carefully evaluate all options before deciding on his next destination.

Injuries and Limited Appearances Mark Recent Seasons

During the 2025-26 season, Nelson spent time on loan at Brentford but faced multiple injury setbacks and scarce opportunities. He appeared in only 13 matches across all competitions, starting just three times in domestic cup games.

Before Brentford, Nelson was on loan at Fulham for the 2024-25 season, but a major hamstring injury in December 2024 cut that campaign short.

From Academy Prospect to First-Team Contributor

Nelson’s journey began in Arsenal’s academy, where he was seen as one of the most promising talents. After signing his first pro deal in December 2016, he made his senior debut in August 2017 as a substitute against Chelsea in the Community Shield.

He had loan spells at Hoffenheim (2018-19), where he scored three goals in 22 appearances, and Feyenoord (starting August 2021), helping the Dutch side reach the Europa Conference League final. His performances earned him a new contract with Arsenal in 2023 after returning from these loans.

A Chapter Closes After 90 Appearances

Nelson leaves Arsenal having played 90 games, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. Though he didn’t quite reach the star status predicted during his youth days, moments like his dramatic 97th-minute winner against Bournemouth in 2023 ensure fans will remember him fondly.
