Hansi Flick Confirms Rodri’s Barcelona Debut Against Athletic Club

Flick faces a midfield challenge as Gavi remains sidelined due to a knee injury sustained in the weekend victory against Elche. Gavi will miss the clash with Athletic Club but is reported to be recovering well, with a return expected in about a week.

“We intend to give Rodri some minutes initially,” Flick said. “We also have Marc Bernal for that role, but Rodri brings more experience and leadership. Together with Pedri, they will help us control possession and manage the opponent. That is very important. We struggled with possession against Elche; Rodri is one of the best, and having them together will benefit us.”

“We condemn and reject the disproportionate actions against Barca fans carrying the Estelada before the Elche game,” Laporta said. “We hope appropriate punishment ensures fans can express themselves safely.”
