San Diego FC has completed the acquisition of seasoned striker Cedric Bakambu on a free transfer after his departure from Real Betis. The 35-year-old forward signed a deal running through the 2026 MLS season, with club options extending to 2028. His arrival strengthens San Diego’s bid for a spot in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Californian club officially announced the signing following Bakambu's exit from the Spanish La Liga. Fresh off starting three matches for DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup, where his team made it to the Round of 32 in their debut, Bakambu brings international and European experience to the squad.

Bakambu began his professional career at Sochaux and has since scored 191 goals and provided 49 assists in 492 games. His career includes stints at notable clubs such as Villarreal, Marseille, Olympiacos, and Galatasaray. Internationally, he has netted 21 goals in 72 appearances for DR Congo and competed in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

His signing adds firepower to a San Diego frontline featuring Anders Dreyer, Marcus Ingvartsen, and fellow 2026 World Cup participant Elias Achouri.
