Tottenham Acquire Brazil Winger Savinho from Manchester City for £75m

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of Brazil winger Savinho from Manchester City for an initial fee of £75 million. The 22-year-old has agreed to a long-term contract with Spurs, who could pay an extra £10 million through add-ons.

The transfer comes after more than a year of negotiations, including a failed attempt by Tottenham to sign him last summer. Savinho chose to stay at the Etihad Stadium but had limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola, starting only seven Premier League matches last season.

"It's taken a while but I am very happy to be here," Savinho said. "It is a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke to the head coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Savinho joined City from French club Troyes in 2024 for £30.8 million. During his time at Manchester City, he made 84 appearances, scored seven goals, and provided 16 assists.

His arrival at Spurs follows the club’s summer signings of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, collectively costing around £312 million. Tottenham also added defenders Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson on free transfers, plus goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Roberto de Zerbi described Savinho as "a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity."

Meanwhile, Manchester City are in advanced discussions to sell Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush to Spurs, with insiders suggesting the deal may be finalized before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Savinho's Playing Style and Recent Performance

Last season, Savinho’s minutes at City dropped sharply after they signed winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in January. He logged 821 Premier League minutes, scoring once and assisting once, participating in only 31% of City's total minutes across all competitions—a notable decrease from 54% the previous season.

Despite this, Savinho's 2024-25 stats justify Tottenham’s investment. He notched eight Premier League assists from open play that season, ranking among the top five players. His assist rate per 90 minutes placed him third for open-play assists, trailing only Mohamed Salah, while creating 2.2 chances per 90.

Carrying the ball proved his biggest strength. Among players with at least 1,000 minutes, only Jeremy Doku averaged more progressive carries (6.8 per 90) covering at least 10 meters. Savinho also led the league for carries followed by a chance created, averaging 1.3 per 90, closely matched by Son Heung-min for turning carries into assists.

He completed 2.6 dribbles per 90 minutes with a 51% success rate, often drawing defenders before finding teammates.

His breakout season came with Girona in La Liga in 2023-24, where he played 2,989 minutes—mostly on the left wing (65%). He scored nine goals, assisted eight, and was considered one of La Liga’s most dangerous one-on-one players.

At City, his role shifted to the right side, where he spent 36% of his playing time compared to 20% on the left, demonstrating versatility that could prove valuable at Spurs.
