Vinicius Junior's Contract Situation Sparks Interest from Arsenal

The biggest winger in world football is in no hurry. Real Madrid are. That tension has put Arsenal on alert.

The London club are one of five Premier League sides who have asked to be kept closely informed of Vinicius Junior’s contract situation at the Bernabeu, as Real prepare to reopen talks with their Brazilian star.

Vinicius, 25, has already said he is in “no hurry” to sign fresh terms with the 15-time European champions. His current deal runs until 2027, which should, in theory, give Madrid comfort. It hasn’t. Inside the club, there is a clear line: extend, or be sold.

Madrid draw a line in the sand

According to TEAMtalk, discussions between Real Madrid and Vinicius stalled in the middle of last season and were put on ice while the forward focused on club and country. With Brazil now out of the 2026 World Cup after a shock round-of-16 exit to Erling Haaland’s Norway, the talks are set to resume.

The stance from Madrid’s hierarchy is blunt. If Vinicius does not sign a new contract this summer, he will be placed on the transfer list. President Florentino Perez is determined not to watch one of his crown jewels walk away for nothing in 2027.

Money, as always at this level, is central. Real have reportedly offered to lift Vinicius’s basic wage from around £350,000 per week to in excess of £400,000. His camp, though, are said to be pushing closer to the £500,000-per-week bracket that would place him among the very top earners in the game.

When a player of that stature and that contract profile hits even the rumour mill, Europe listens.

England’s elite on standby

Arsenal are not alone. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are all understood to be monitoring the situation and would “seriously consider” a move if Madrid make good on their threat to sell.

For Arsenal, the timing is intriguing. The club are already reported to have reached an agreement for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, another Brazilian who fits Mikel Arteta’s technical and tactical demands. Drop Vinicius into that mix and the picture changes again.

Arsenal have built a hardened, well-drilled side under Arteta, but they lack what Madrid have enjoyed in Vinicius: a true, global superstar in his prime. A player who shifts game plans and defensive shapes on his own. On the left flank, he would walk straight into the team.

This is not a case of signing potential. Vinicius arrives fully formed. Even in what, by his own stratospheric standards, was a “steady” campaign, he still produced 23 goals and 11 assists in all competitions as Los Blancos were edged out in La Liga by Barcelona. Those are numbers that define seasons, not decorate them.

Bayern and Saudi money lurking

The Premier League’s financial power is obvious, but not unique. Bayern Munich are also credited with a strong interest and are one of the few clubs outside England who could realistically absorb both a huge transfer fee and the kind of wages Vinicius’s camp are chasing.

Then there is the Saudi Pro League. The report suggests a clear admiration there as well, with the former Flamengo forward in line to more than double his current salary were he to swap Europe for the Gulf. The money on offer would dwarf even Madrid’s improved terms.

For now, though, Vinicius remains a Real Madrid player, his future locked in negotiation rooms and board-level calculations.

Arsenal, along with the rest of England’s elite, can only wait, watch the stand-off develop – and decide how far they are willing to go if one of the modern game’s most devastating wingers is suddenly pushed onto the market.
