ADO's Peter Addresses Training Leak Ahead of Eredivisie Home Match

Peter will lead ADO into their first Eredivisie home match in five years this weekend, but the build-up has been overshadowed by anger and a closed-doors decree.

The head coach has scrapped open training after team information from a session was leaked online almost in real time. For him, that crossed a line.

“I don't know who it was, but in any case someone, or a few people, posted information online immediately,” he told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad. “That makes keeping training sessions open completely pointless for us.”

The decision bites. ADO had wanted supporters close, especially with top-flight football finally back in The Hague. Instead, the gates are shut in the name of tactics and control.

Peter made it clear he felt he had no choice.

“I have no idea if this happened last year as well, but this time I knew it was posted online straight away,” he said. “We want everyone to be able to come and watch training, but that information has to stay inside the complex. That didn't happen, so we have to close the doors.”

The frustration is obvious, yet he has tried to push the leak to the margins as matchday two of the 2026-27 Eredivisie season looms. A sold-out crowd will watch ADO welcome FC Groningen on Sunday afternoon, the home side hunting their first points after a sobering start.

AZ punished them on the opening day, 2-0, with second-half goals from Ro-Zangelo Daal and Calvin Stengs deciding the game. ADO competed, but when the tempo rose, AZ found the extra gear. That’s the standard Peter knows they must hit quickly.

Now comes a different kind of examination. Groningen arrive in form and full of confidence after edging past FC Utrecht in their curtain-raiser, a result that has already given their season a jolt of momentum. ADO, by contrast, are still trying to find their feet back at this level.

Peter, though, is not expecting a cagey afternoon.

“I don't expect any surprises and I'm hoping for an open game played at high intensity by both teams,” he said, setting the tone for what he wants from his players and what the crowd can expect.

Team news offers a mix of setbacks and small boosts. Jalen Hawkins remains out with a hamstring injury, while Cameron Peupion is still a long-term absentee after knee surgery, thinning ADO’s attacking and creative options.

There is better news in goal. Niclas Thiede has returned to full training after an ankle problem and is back in contention, restoring experience and stability between the posts. Cagliari loanee Othniel Raterink is also edging closer to involvement; he could feature from the bench as he builds match fitness and sharpness.

So the stage is set: a sold-out stadium, a club back in the Eredivisie and a coach who has just drawn a hard line on how close the outside world can get to his work.

Now it’s up to ADO to show on the pitch why that tactical secrecy matters.
