Amed SK vs Besiktas: A Night of High Stakes

Diyarbakir has waited a long time for nights like this. A packed Diyarbakir Stadyumu, the lights, the noise – and Besiktas in town with second place on the line.

Amed SK, in their first Super Lig campaign, have crashed the party with no intention of slipping quietly away. Five games in, they sit third with 10 points, perfect at home and playing with the swagger of a side that has not yet learned to be afraid.

Besiktas arrive as favourites. They also arrive warned.

Amed’s fearless start

Besnik Hasi’s team have been one of the stories of the early season. The 5-0 destruction of Istanbul Basaksehir last time out was not a plucky underdog win. It was a statement.

Emin Bayram’s own goal nudged Amed in front before the break. After that, Gift Orban tore the game apart. Three goals in 23 minutes, ruthless and relentless, turned a good day into a rout. Mbaye Diagne came off the bench to add a fifth late on, underlining just how dangerous this side has become in front of their own fans.

Three home league games. Three wins. Ten goals scored. Diyarbakir is already one of the most uncomfortable away trips in the division.

Hasi’s men have lost only once in the league and are unbeaten in three, with two victories wrapped around a draw. They sit just two points behind Besiktas and know exactly what is at stake: win on Sunday and they leapfrog the Black Eagles into second.

History does not help them. The only previous meeting between these clubs, a Turkish Cup tie on this same ground, ended in a 4-0 Besiktas win. That was a different Amed, in a different era. This version looks nothing like cannon fodder.

Besiktas flying, but questions on the road

Besiktas come in hot. Vincenzo Italiano has them scoring freely and winning consistently. Across all competitions they have strung together four straight victories, rattling in goals and rediscovering their edge.

In the league, they swept aside Erzurumspor 3-0 in their last outing, backing up a gritty 2-1 derby victory away at Fenerbahce and a 6-2 hammering of Corum. Confidence is high, patterns are clear, and the attack is humming.

They carried that rhythm into Europe. On Thursday, they went to the Europa League and dismantled Marseille 4-1, turning a 1-1 half-time scoreline into a second-half procession with three unanswered goals.

Yet the away record still nags. Both of Besiktas’s defeats this season have come on their travels, and both by the same 1-0 scoreline – first at Alanyaspor in the league, then at Kauno Zalgiris in Europe. Those results still hang in the background when they leave Istanbul.

They have only once won an away game by more than a single goal this season. The victory at Fenerbahce suggests they can handle hostile territory when it matters, but Diyarbakir offers a different kind of pressure: a newly promoted side playing like every home match is a final.

This is also uncharted ground in the league. There is no previous Super Lig head-to-head between Amed and Besiktas. It is a fresh fixture, with fresh tension.

Team news and likely lineups

Amed’s selection picture is relatively clear. Yira Sor is still not expected to feature, and Dilhan Demir remains sidelined as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury. Beyond that, Hasi has the core of his Basaksehir-destroying XI intact.

Orban should again lead the line, with Dia Saba operating just behind him, pulling strings and drifting into pockets. The shape that has served them so well at home is unlikely to change.

Amed’s home form makes them a dangerous proposition for anyone, including a Besiktas side in full flow. Orban has already scored six league goals, five of them in his last two outings, and looks in the kind of form that bends games to his will.

Besiktas bring experience, depth and momentum, but they also bring the fatigue of a European away night and the memory of those early-season stumbles on the road. Amed bring noise, belief and a perfect home record.

Put that together and this feels set up for a wild, open contest in Diyarbakir – and a draw that would say as much about Amed’s rise as it does about Besiktas’s title ambitions.
