Townsend, a regular ITV pundit and a lively presence on social media, headed to Instagram to laugh off the incident. He linked it to one of his recent viral posts, where he had contrasted the sun-soaked away days in Thailand with those grim, windswept afternoons at Stoke’s bet365 Stadium.

"It turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all. Swipe to see why," he wrote on his Instagram story, inviting followers to watch the clip of the roller collision.

Thai fans quickly leaned into the moment. Another post dubbed him "The King of Memes in Thai League history". Townsend’s response was short and perfectly in tune with the chaos: "trust me", followed by four laughing emojis.
