Arsenal vs Chelsea: Arteta's Experience Decision for London Derby

Mikel Arteta is poised to shuffle his pack as Arsenal brace for Chelsea’s visit to the Emirates on Sunday, a clash already shaping up as an early-season litmus test.

Both clubs arrive perfect after two Premier League games. Chelsea’s attack has sparked into life. Arsenal’s defence has not been breached. Attack against defence, on paper. In reality, it looks more nuanced, and Arteta’s team selection will say plenty about how he plans to tilt the balance.

Back line: experience over promise?

Cristhian Mosquera’s withdrawal at Aston Villa on Monday was described as precautionary, but it has opened a door. Arteta may not want to gamble again.

Ezri Konsa, waiting in the wings, is pushing for a full debut at centre-back alongside Gabriel. The temptation is obvious: more experience, more authority, especially against a Chelsea frontline that has already found rhythm.

Midfield riches and a big Bruno question

If the back line is about control, the midfield is about abundance.

Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are almost untouchable in this side. They anchor and orchestrate. Which leaves Myles Lewis-Skelly as the likely casualty should Guimaraes be promoted to the starting XI.

It would be a ruthless call. It would also be entirely in keeping with the stakes of a London derby between two teams with perfect records and early-season momentum to protect.

Wide threat and the No 10 conundrum

Further forward, the decisions get even more delicate.

Christos Tzolis struggled to impose himself against Villa. Eberechi Eze did the opposite. Introduced at half-time, he changed the feel of the game and strengthened his case to start against Chelsea.
