Arsenal Aim for Perfect Start Against Sunderland

Arsenal head to Wearside on Saturday chasing a perfect start to their Premier League campaign and a ninth straight win in all competitions, with Sunderland the next obstacle in a quietly ominous early-season march.

Mikel Arteta’s side arrive from a hard-edged 1-0 victory over Napoli in the Champions League, a result that underlined the defensive steel behind their fast start. No team in the division has allowed fewer expected goals against, and Arsenal look every bit as organised without the ball as they are fluent with it.

That gives Arsenal a familiar shape with a slightly different flavour. Waiting in reserve, Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes provide heavyweight options from the bench, the kind of depth that can smother games late on.
