Ayoub El Kaabi Suffers Serious Injury, Faces Months Out
Olympiacos’s early-season momentum has been jolted by a brutal injury to Ayoub El Kaabi, with Greek reports confirming the Moroccan striker has suffered a serious double leg fracture and now faces months on the sidelines.
The incident came late in the first half of Olympiacos’s 1-1 draw with Volos in the third round of the Greek top flight. As the first period edged towards its close, El Kaabi went down in obvious distress. The diagnosis was grim: a fracture of both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.
Successful surgery in Athens
Sportal reported that the forward was operated on in Athens, with Olympiacos club doctor Christos Theos leading the procedure alongside his medical team. The surgery, carried out at the B. Valeriou clinic, part of the Athens Medical Centre, was described as successful and “carried out smoothly”.
Sport 24 relayed the club’s official statement, which underlined that the immediate post-surgery phase is unfolding “according to the plan laid out”. The medical staff have already switched focus to what comes next: a carefully managed rehabilitation.
According to the same reports, the rehab programme begins immediately, with Olympiacos stressing the goal of a “gradual, safe and full return to competitive activity” for their leading striker.
Six to seven months out
The real blow lies in the timeline. Protothema reported that initial estimates suggest El Kaabi will be out of action for between six and seven months. That projection could stretch or shorten, with the outlet noting that the “exact duration of his absence from the pitch depends greatly on his body's response to treatment and rehabilitation”.
For Olympiacos, it is a harsh twist so early in the campaign. For El Kaabi, it marks the start of a long, lonely road back from one of the most feared injuries in the game.
The operation is done. The rehab starts now. The question is not whether he returns – but what shape he will be in when he finally pulls on the red and white again.
