Barcelona Begin La Liga Season with Hansi Flick’s Squad

Barcelona open their La Liga season on the road on Sunday, and they do it with a fresh list of names and a few big storylines packed into Hansi Flick’s first league squad.

The Blaugrana travel to Elche with 23 players called up, a group that blends established talent, rising academy products and one new signing who is already drawing attention.

Flick’s First League Squad

Between the posts, Flick has three options: Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny and Eder Aller. Joan is tipped to start, but the presence of Szczesny underlines the depth of competition that now exists in goal.

Up front, there is no shortage of flair. Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon and Hamza Abdelkarim form an attacking group capable of stretching any back line. Pace, one-on-one ability and movement in behind – Flick has all of it available from the start.

Notable Absences and Departures

Three familiar names are missing as they move towards the exit door. Marc Casadó, Álvaro Cortés and Héctor Fort are left out of the squad while they finalize their departures from the club, a clear sign of the transition underway beneath the first team.

Injury also bites hard in midfield and attack. Gavi (knee), Frenkie de Jong (knee) and Roony Bardghji (knee) all miss out. Losing that trio strips Flick of creativity, control and direct threat, but it also opens the stage for others to seize minutes early in the campaign.

Flick is expected to stick with a 4-3-3 for his La Liga bow. The predicted XI:

Plenty of experience still lurks on the bench, but this projected lineup signals trust in the next generation and a willingness from Flick to lean into it from day one.
